John was halfway across the log when he felt a tingling throughout his body. His balance improved and he was moving better. The log was chiseled flat and appeared wider. He stopped focusing on the log and looked up. He blinked several times, not believing what he saw. The lean-to had become a full-blown log cabin, complete with chimney, windows, and a sturdy door. A length of rope hung from one corner of the cabin to a nearby tree, several articles of clothing hanging. A curl of smoke rose from the chimney.

John carefully turned around. A few feet from him was a shimmering wall. He saw the forest beyond that, but it was out of focus, like a kaleidoscope. Cautiously, he pressed his finger to the wall. It radiated a type of electrical charge from his finger, outward, like a spider web. His finger, then hand, went through the shimmering wall. It tingled, but there was no pain. He pulled his arm back and examined it, flexing his fingers. Nothing unusual.

John looked back toward the cabin, then toward the shimmering wall. Which way should he go?
